National Art Competition
Exhibition dates: July 22-September 12, 2008. 21st Annual Northern National Art Competition. Open to all artists 18 years or older who are US residents. A Sense of Place 2008
The Gertrude Herbert Institute of Art is currently accepting entries for its 28th annual juried fine art competition, A Sense of Place 2008. Aperture Portfolio Prize
Aperture Foundation is excited to announce the second annual international Aperture Portfolio Prize. The purpose of the prize is to identify trends in contemporary photography and, specifically, artists whom we feel we can help by bringing them to a wide audience. First prize is $2,500. Biennial Sculpture Competition - Chattanooga, TN
The City of Chattanooga is seeking artwork to lease for the Third Biennial Sculpture Exhibition in Chattanooga, Tennessee, which will be on view August 2008-February 2010. Works can be in any media, must be suitable for outdoors, and may be functional or non-functional, temporary in nature or permanent. Up to seven works will be selected for this exhibition. The competition is open to both new ideas and already existing artworks. Artworks will be leased for a period of 18 months, and each artist who is selected for the exhibition will receive a stipend of $5,000. At the end of the lease period, one work will be selected for purchase for inclusion in the city's permanent collection. Paint the Parks
The 2008 Paint the Parks100 Competition and the the Paint the Parks "Mini50" provide the country's top national venue for established and emerging representational artists to showcase their talents. The competition celebrates our country's national parks, with a portion of the proceeds benefiting the National Parks Foundation. The competition also supports the PaintAmerica mission of providing scholarships for young artists and promoting the visual arts across America. Entries representing any of the 390 National Parks are submitted and judged within one of the three National Park Regions. The highest scoring painting from all entries is named the Grand Prize Purchase Award Winner and claims a $10,000 purchase award. It, and the top 33 paintings from each of the three regions advance to the Paint the Parks100. Other artists in the top 100 also have the chance to receive additional cash prizes and purchase awards. Fusion - A Compilation of Colorado Fiber Artists
The Fremont Center for Arts in Canon City, Colorado will host an exhibit of Fiber Art by Colorado Fiber Artists in June/July 2008. This is a juried show with entry fees and a 30% commission paid to the Center. Art for this exhibit is defined as traditional and contemporary fiber art to include but not limited to: silk painting, silk fusion, wool felting, dyeing, painting, stitching, dissolving, surface techniques and embellishment where fiber is the basis of the work. Perrysburg Outdoor Sculpture Exhibit
Perrysburg Ohio is a thriving historic community located on the banks of the Maumee River. Rich in culture and heritage Perrysburg is a scenic setting for a one year temporary sculpture exhibit. This affluent community with a population of 20,000 supports year round cultural events. The warm months bring tens of thousands of visitors into the area for 3 successful art festivals, 36 summer concerts, 18 visual art exhibits, a regional car show, First Friday Street Fests, and much more in historic downtown. During the cold months the flow of tourists continues as residents and visitors attend annual parades, fall festivities, holiday tree lighting events, and indoor concerts. The Perrysburg Area Arts Council will place sculptures in strategic locations that will enhance the sculptures, and capitalize on public viewing opportunities during community events and sculpture exhibit promotional programs. Art About Wine
Grants Pass Museum of Art presents Art About Wine, an exhibition of art celebrating the making of wine in the Rogue Valley. The Grants Pass Museum of Art is presenting an exhibition showcasing the significant presence of vineyards and wineries established in the Rogue Valley. Eight wineries are participating in this project by opening their vineyards to artists for creative inspiration. Artists in Jackson and Josephine Counties are invited to contact the listed wineries to arrange a visit if they are interested in seeing a working vineyard and learning more about the art of winemaking. These eight wineries will also be providing wine tasting during several events planned at the Museum during this exhibition. Open to all artists living in Jackson and Josephine Counties, Oregon. The Clay Studio - Juried Solo Exhibition Series
The Clay Studio offers opportunities for one to three solo exhibitions annually. The number of exhibitions awarded is dependent upon the quality of the applicants. We are now accepting applications for the gallery season September 2009-August 2010. The Clay Studio provides a four-color invitation, mailing, local and national coverage, and hosts an opening reception. Shipping both to and from the gallery are at the expense of the artist, though The Clay Studio provides a modest honorarium to help cover these costs ($250.00). From Appaloosas to Zebras, country roaming to carousel rotating are welcome to this call for entry. Images of working horses, wild horses, dressage, tack, anything related to the life of our equine friends is welcome. Please Touch Again
Tohono Chul Park is looking for artists to submit their work for an upcoming exhibit entitled, Please Touch Again . The artwork submitted must be completely touchable, having tactile or perhaps sound qualities. The exhibit will open on August 21 and continue through November 9, 2008 in the Exhibit Hall. Call for Photography - Glimpses in Time
Photographers working in all styles, in traditional or digital formats, are invited to enter up to two of their photographic images for the international juried photography exhibition - Glimpses in Time. This year's exhibit pays tribute to the life and art of James Van Der Zee, an American-born photographer who produced the most comprehensive documentation of the Harlem Renaissance. From Our Perspective
From Our Perspective is a national women's art exhibition sponsored by the Oakland Community College Womencenter in Farmington Hills, Michigan. Please submit your digital entries by August 1, 2008. This juried exhibit will feature women artists and will include two- and three-dimensional works of art. The Smithtown Township Arts Council is now accepting entries for Introspections, A Juried Self-Portrait Exhibition to be held August 16- September 22, 2008. Midnight Oils
The Smithtown Township Arts Council is seeking works ranging from the macabre to whimsical for Halloween Midnight Oils, to be held October 4-November 7, 2008. The exhibition is in celebration of art's awesome power as a spiritual instrument that helps man to transcend his primeval fear of death and of the unknown. Juror Alain Khadem is not interested in the gratuitously gory, but in works that portray frightening subject matters in a philosophic, romantic, or humorous light. Ocala Arts Festival
Fine Arts for Ocala (FAFO) was established in 1967 to promote the appreciation of fine arts and education in the community and is a nonprofit corporation. Couture Jewelry Award & Sale
The Couture Jewelry Design Award was founded in 2006 for the purpose of awarding couture, or "one of a kind," jewelry designers in the time honored tradition of museum quality jewelry. The purpose of this award is to foster and promote talent within the arena of jewelry design using precious materials and gems. The Couture Jewelry Award & Sale is a unique event, created to foster the artistry of jewelry design, offering a gold medal award to honor the recipient along with a sale and show of 40 of the finest jewelry artists. Pittsburgh Arena - Pittsburgh, PA
The Urban Redevelopment Authority (URA), City of Pittsburgh (City), Sports & Exhibition Authority (SEA) and the Pittsburgh Penguins (Developer) are seeking a consultant or consultant team to create a public art plan for the Pittsburgh Arena which focuses on the exterior of the building and the surrounding site. The new Pittsburgh Arena will be the home for the Pittsburgh Penguins and will replace their current arena, Mellon Arena, which was built in 1961. The arena will also function as a multipurpose venue for performing arts and entertainment. The consultant will analyze the Pittsburgh Arena Master Development Plan, recommendations from the Contextual Design Advisory Panel and meet with City staff, project stakeholders and the community to develop a comprehensive public art plan for the arena. The art plan should provide for projects that depict the history, present and future of Pittsburgh, the Hill District, Uptown and the Pittsburgh Penguins. South Wastewater Treatment Plant - Renton, WA
Culture and the King County Wastewater Treatment Division are seeking an artist to create a water feature for the South Wastewater Treatment Plant in Renton, Washington in conjunction with the construction of a new Administration Building. The selected artist will work with 4Culture and Wastewater Treatment personnel to research and develop the sculptural work which is to be located within an existing 52' x 24' rectangular pond. Located just off of the visitor parking lot, the pond is east of the new Administration Building, between the DCB Building and the Pump Building. The artist is invited to modify the pond and is strongly encouraged to utilize industrial surplus materials from the Plant in the water feature's construction. This project presents a unique opportunity for collaboration, with Plant staff providing on-site support, expertise, and resources. Competitive applicants will have experience working collaboratively with community representatives or governmental agencies in the design and execution of artwork and portfolio examples of permanently-sited exterior sculpture, work made from recycled and reclaimed materials, or work using water as a primary material.
