Search by combinations of artist and image attributes

Word searches look at designated fields in the databases to find a match:

Words related to artists:
First name, last name, business name, address, city, state, zip, county, artistic discipline, gender, racial/ethnic origin, disabilities, services offered.

Words related to images:
Medium, image keywords

Image keywords:
each image is coded with keywords or phrases defined by the artist that describe attributes of the work. For example, words describing style, materials used, technique, subject matter, mood, color, etc.

Words are combined together using the word "and". For example:

"watercolor landscape painting" is searched as watercolor "and" landscape "and" painting and returns only records that contain all three words.

If you enter only a first name, records containing the first name are returned. For example, "Mary" returns records for Mary Smith and Mary Jones.
If you enter only a last name, records containing the last name are returned. For example, "Brown" returns records for Alex Brown and Mark Brown and Sarah Brown.
Names are combined together using the word "and." If you enter both first and last name, records containing both the first name "and" last name are returned. For example, "John Smith" returns the record for John Smith, it will not return records for John Jones or Mary Smith

Items within each category are combined using the word "or". Items are combined together using the word "and." For example, To find a list of painters and sculptors who live in Phoenix, the system searches for records where the artistic discipline is either painting "or" sculpture, "and" the city is Phoenix.

Names that appear in black are Artist Listings only - no additional information or images are available.
Click on an artist's email address to send a message directly to the artist.
Click on an artist's Internet address to go directly to her/his own Web site.

Image results are sorted in alphabetical order by the artist's last name and display thumbnail images with a title and the artist's name.
Click on the image to enlarge it and see additional information.
Click on the artist's name to go to her/his Page or Portfolio.

Keywords entered must match words in the database. For example: If you use keywords to find artists in a particular discipline or images in a particular medium you must use words like painting instead of painters, sculpture instead of sculptors. Word choices for artistic discipline and artistic media are listed on the Select Search page along with the exact word choices for other searchable categories.
To improve your results, shorten words to eliminate plural or other endings. For example: shorten the word "drawings" to "drawing" or "draw" The database will return all records containing the entered combination of letters.
When using Advanced Search, be sure to reset the form to clear your previous selections when starting a new search. The "reset" button is at the bottom of the form.
Simplify your searches. A complex search combining many attributes may take longer and be less accurate than two or three simpler searches.

Some searches return records that don't appear to match your criteria. The system searches many data fields to find results - the words or combination of letters you entered may be found in a name, an address, the title of a work or in keywords associated with images.
